In the Ganjam district of the state of Orissa in India is found one of the finest examples of the mythical flower champaca, a primitive flowering plant belonging to the Magnolia family. Famous for being used in Hindu ceremonies and by Balinese dancers, champaca keeps its fragrance long after being picked. Chosen for its exoticism and ritualistic connotations, and surrounding it by other exquisite ingredients, champaca has become the flower of all flowers.
